Sin. Sin Is Everywhere Yet Nowhere At The Same Exact Time.
Sin Sin is everywhere yet nowhere at the same exact time. Sin is inevitable yet many people believe they can combat it through their faith. Without faith, sin would consume anyone in its path. Even people of strong religious beliefs will continue to sin throughout their life. As stated in Romans 3:23, ââ¬Å"for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.â⬠Nathanial Hawthorneââ¬â¢s two literary pieces Young Goodman Brown and The Minister s Black Veil highlight the struggle of human inclination to constantly hide their own sin. The two stories are different in that Goodman Brown exposes the real (sinful) faces of his peers, but in ââ¬Å"The Ministerââ¬â¢s Black Veilâ⬠Hawthorne purposely hides the face of the minister and creates the idea thatâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Now Goodman is thoroughly freaked out and wants to return to the village for ââ¬Å"Faithââ¬â¢sâ⬠sake. Upon arriving at a ceremony, most likely a devil-worshipping cult ritual, he be gins to look around and see the entire community is there. Goodman then sees the new convert is actually his wife, Faith, and begs her to resist the devil then all of a sudden appears alone in the forest once more. Hawthorne uses a more straightforward writing style upon Goodmanââ¬â¢s reentry into the real world to symbolize the return to reality. After Goodmanââ¬â¢s prophecy or awakening so to speak, he has a no outlook on the overwhelming sinful nature of humans. Contrastingly enough, Father Hooper perceives sin through real experiences. The Minister s Black Veil begins with Hooper exiting his home and walking to church to preach the Sunday morning sermon. People cry out in astonishment, question his identity, forget to greet him, move about uncomfortably, and whisper upon seeing a black veil over his face (Hawthorne 1311-12). Hooper s fiancà ©e Elizabeth informs him of rumors spreading throughout the town and asks him to remove the veil, but he refuses to do so. Hooper res ponds, If I cover it for secret sin, what mortal might not do the same? (Hawthorne 1317). Edgar Allan Poe concurs with the idea of a secret sin in his criticism of Hawthorne s work. When a child is born itââ¬â¢s actions and morals are solely based on the environment itââ¬â¢s parents set for it. The child is unable to move, eat, learn and speak without the guidance of an individual. However as the child progresses in life it starts breaking away from the environment that is set for them and engage themselves in the environment of their choice. The child starts to develop itââ¬â¢s own morals and an identity for themselves overtime, similar to Huck Finn. In the novel The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain is a story about a 13 year old boy who heads out on a journey through the Mississippi River with a black runaway slave, Jim. Its simple form makes it interesting to the people who write and read it. Even though haiku poetry is one of, if not the smallest form of poetry, there is a long history behind it and many elements, such as structure, topic, haiku moment, season word, imagery, and suggestiveness, that have to be considered when writing haiku. Haiku poetry appeared in the sixteenth century. It was mostly centered in Japan. There were two main reasons that people wrote haiku. It was a way for people to express their thoughts, and to rise above the limitations imposed by the usual language and thought that treats everything as machines. Most haiku is written in plain, everyday, language. (Lewis) Haiku developed from a different form of poetry called tanka, which dates all the way back to early Japanese history. Tanka is a five-lined verse. After haiku was created, it was usually seen as the hokku of a renga. A hokku is the first line in a renga and a renga is a long series of poems. These search and arrest warrants also have to abide to certain requirements to make them plausible and usable. Not only do they require judicial approval but the warrant must also have a suitable cause initiating the search or arrest. Thus, these warrants are created according to the knowledge of a specific person, mostly a law enforcement officer, who have sworn to it and are therefore responsible and accountable for it to the issuing court. In 1885, the Murray v Hoboken land law determined that the fourth amendment applied only to criminal law and not any kind of civil law (Encyclopedia Britannica). The federal government then ensured that areas like narcotics were also included in the realm of criminal jurisdiction. However, the Supreme Court soon ruled that some searches and seizures were violating the Fourth Amendment despite the warrant carrying a probable cause and a limitation in scope (US Supreme Court 1967). Yet, at the same time the Court has also allowed innumerable seizures and searches to be carried out without any form of warrant, only because they feel a probable cause to exist that a criminal offense has been or is being committed (US Supreme Court 2004).This a clear portrayal of how the reasonableness and issuing of the warrant are often vastly different. The ACLA v NSA case relates back to the creation of a classified foreign intelligence program, now known as the Terrorist Surveillance Program. This agency could intercept international telephone and internet communications from numerous persons and organizations without needing to issue a warrant. The plaintiff in this legal case included, ACLA, the Council on American-Islamic Relations, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and Greenpeace along with five individuals who are authors and journalists. These included Christopher Hitchens, James Bamford, Tara McKelvey Larry Diamond: a democracy scholar of Stanford University and the Hoover Institution, and Barnett Rubin: an Afghanistan scholar of New York University. All these individuals claimed to have a history of communicating with people located inside or from the Middle East. They held the opinion based on a secure belief that their communications had been targeted by the TSP. This idea was because of the public kn owledge that had been attained by the workings of this program. ACLA v NSA was one of the first lawsuits produced that challenged the Terrorist Surveillance Program (Hibbits 2006). The District Court presented its own opinion. Judge Taylor wrote a forty-four page and eleven part opinion which was responsible for examining the defendant's claims over the part played by the NSA in this movement. It was discovered that according to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act the NSA violated that laws that had been decided. According to FISA, the Terrorist Surveillance Act was passed in 2006 through which President Bush gave additional power to the authorities to conduct electronic surveillance on suspected terrorists in the United States subject to the view of the Congress.
